HYBRID ATHLETES

Here is an overview of a few of the other hybrid competitors you can attend.

We are very much fans of HYROX but we would be foolish not to recognise and salute others in this space. Let's take a little dive into some, break down the formats and talk about how we can help coach for them.

DEKA

We love these guys and the race!

I finished 1st in age group in Manchester 2026 so it was fab for me!

THE SET UP

There are -

• DEKA Mile (160m runs)

• DEKA Strong (No runs)

• DEKA Fit (500m runs)

• DEKA Ultra (5 x Full DEKA Fit)

Basically, they are all the same race but the running distance differs.

There are 10 stations.

Except in the DEKA Strong race, like HyRox, you run before each station. The max distance is 500m so it’s quicker.

The stations are fast and lighter compared to HyRox.

For example they have box step overs, reverse lunges, row 500m, 500m ski….. etc…..

After competing in Manchester I would say that DEKA Fit is an excellent option if you are an absolute beginner and want to “dip your toe” in the hybrid world before hitting a HyRox. It’s more doable for a lot more people I would say.

THE DEADLY DOZEN

12 stations with a 400m run before each station. Like a lot of the upcoming hybrid races, these guys have a few different formats.

Even a "Deadly Gross" which is 12 full deadly's back to back! WOW! You can go as an individual or a pair and the stations are super cool!

Like

• Bear Crawls

• Plate carry at chest

• Overhead plate carry

• Kettle bell dead lifts

Etc...

Nothing is very heavy so it's great for the less strong but beware... It's still very tough! Most stations are 60 reps! And they have 20x Devil press to finish!

METRIX

Myself and Rhian competed in this great workout in 2025 again up in Manchester.

This is very simple and smart.

It is only done in pairs. No individual races.

You relay on and off the work as needed. They use a 10 minute timer on each station. 4 Minutes recovery between each station. In that time you accumulate as many reps/distance as you can.

It is -

• Ski - Max distance

• Row - Max distance

• Bike - Max distance

• Burpee's - As many as possible

• Shuttle runs - As many

(some of the METRIX races have sled push too)

They play the music loud and have the lights down while the 10 minutes is on then lower the music and up the lights while you rest and swap... it's like a night club!! We loved it! Very all inclusive and great fun too!

THE HYBRID GAMES

Ok, so this beauty is very much like a HYROX except you run 600m before each station and then a 200m spring run finish.

10 Stations (some familiar like)

• Wall balls

• Burpee broad jumps

• Sled Push

• Sled Pull

And some funky like -

• Cals on Air Bike

Very similar format to HYROX except the wall balls are first and not last! Excellent all round race and set up.

Some stations include -

• Row

• Farmer Carry

• RAM thrusters

Etc...

All very familiar and ace!

THE GIRL GAMES

My Rhian did their very first comp early 2026 and it was brilliant. Two great friends put this together.

AS the name suggests. it's a ladies only competition which I went to watch and believe me when I say, it was fab!

It's split into 3 sections.

• Strength (a lift/press/squat etc)

• Endurance (max on the Erg's)

• MetCon (Multi functional workout)

Very simple! Very effective! Great fun!
